Double Merle lightens the whole coat to white/off-white and turns the skin pink where it touches. Patches of the base coat show through in ragged and irregular spots of varying size.
In heterozygous form, it creates the Merle effect instead.
This mutation is affected by D’or, Briller, Ashen, Reflector, Blacklight, Transparent, Outline, Calliou, Gémifier, Cutout, Ombre and Vitrail mutations.
Pre October 2022: “[For Double Merles] only the darkened patches of colour is left, while the rest of the coat has turned white” – this version of the expression can only be used when it is “grandfathered” in, i.e. if the parent shows the old expression it is optional which expression to use on the resulting foal.
