Faon mimics the light and dark markings of deer, antelope and other bovids, including countershading, spots and stripes. It cannot copy existing Boucle patterns like white markings, Rayé or Tache. The Boucle’s base colour is always visible under the dark and light countershading; white fawn spots and antelope markings (e.g Kudu stripes) may be opaque. Faon does not cover the base coat with the whole antelope’s colour unless extended.

Opaque markings (e.g fawn spots and kudu stripes) are affected by Ashen-type and D’or-type genes, but the dark and pale countershading is not.

Faon vs Fawn Rayé: Faon looks similar to the Bouclemas mutation “Fawn Rayé” but can be expressed by patterns other than deer; it also does not dock the tail in extended form without the Bobtail BA present. Faon is importable, Fawn Rayé is not!
If both Faon and Fawn Rayé are present on the same Boucle, Fawn Rayé will be carried.
